Search to resume today for man missing in River Nore for over a week

The search for a man reported missing in the River Nore since last week will resume this afternoon following an improvement in conditions.

Emergency services were forced to postpone the search over the weekend until Storm Dennis passed after being hampered in their search all last week due to strong currents and low visibility.

Services have been responding to reports that a man went into the river close to John’s Bridge in the city at around lunchtime last Monday, February 10.

Very few dive operations were able to go ahead last week in the aftermath of Storm Ciara and the swells and freezing conditions it brought.

The Kilkenny Civil Defence and gardai called off the search late last Friday evening due to fading light and because of the impending Storm Dennis at the time.

The Kilkenny Sub Aqua club and Garda divers will assess the conditions this morning and if they are favourable, will search areas highlighted by Kilkenny Civil Defence where they believe the man could be located.

A local Garda source told KilkennyNow.ie: “It has been a very frustrating search in the conditions we are dealing in.

“We will have to wait till Storm Dennis passes to resume the search. We will be able to assess the situation and decide whether or not we have to broaden our search.

“One thing that is guaranteed, we will be there to see this search out.”
