Colin Fennelly will lead Cats’ bid to claw back Liam MacCarthy for Kilkenny
All-Star forward Colin Fennelly will captain the Kilkenny hurlers for the coming season.
The four-time All-Ireland winner at intercounty level and two-time All-Star was put forward by his club to captain the Cats in 2020, taking over from Ballyhale Shamrocks teammate TJ Reid.
The news broke shortly after the shock news that Henry Shefflin is to step down as the Shamrock’s coach after guiding them to Kilkenny, Leinster and All-Ireland club titles for the past two seasons.
Kilkenny begin their National League campaign this Sunday, a Division 1B game against Dublin in Nowlan Park, throw-in as at 2pm.
Fellow Shamrocks man Joey Holden has been named vice-captain for the season.
