Three more Kilkenny care facilities to receive vaccine over coming days

Three more care homes in county Kilkenny are expected to have their residents and staff inoculated with the Covid-19 vaccine next week.

Residents and staff at the Tinnypark Residential Care home in the city became the first in the county to receive the jab over the past week, followed by staff at St Luke’s General Hospital.

On Thursday Marie Rochford (pictured above), a 90-year-old resident of Tinnypark care home, became the first person to be administered the vaccine at the facility.

Mount Carmel in Callan, Brookhaven Nursing Home and O’Gorman Home in Ballyragget are the next scheduled local care facilities to receive the vaccine, but the Health Service Executive (HSE) stress this is subject to change.

The positive news follows the announcement earlier this week that a further 3.3 million vaccines have been secured by the Government as part of the EU’s rollout of the vaccine. The new batch of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine is scheduled to be delivered from April. The EU also approved the Moderna vaccine this week.
