Man charged over attempt to collect dead man’s pension in Carlow
Two men have been arrested over the incident in which a dead pensioner was carried into a post office in Carlow.
The two men, one in his 20s and one in his 30s, were arrested in Carlow town yesterday. They were being held at the local Garda station and were being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Gardai this morning confirmed one of the men has been charegd in relation to the incident. He is due to appear before Kilkenny District Court this morning.
The second man was released from custody. Gardai said a file will be prepared for the DPP.
Peader Doyle (66) was taken to Hosey’s post office and shop on Staplestown Road in Carlow town at about 11am on January 21st to collect his pension. However, staff and other customers became concerned for Mr Doyle as he was unresponsive and was being propped up by two men.
