Available to let in Kilkenny this weekend: €232 for caravan 35km from city
By COLIN BARTLEY
A STATIONARY caravan 35km from the city for €232, or a room with a view of Nowlan Park for just under €400.
These are the only two options left for those wanting to book accommodation in all of Kilkenny this Sunday night.
Even our neighbouring counties are profiting, with not one massive gig, but two drawings thousands into the city and county this weekend.
Apart from the Folk Legends Bob Dylan and Neil Young rocking out in Nowlan Park, Kilkenny’s country music festival at Gowran Park, headlined by Mike Denver, is also expecting huge crowds.
It’s possible you will hear a Dylan original sang by Mike Denver – ‘Rock me momma like a wagon wheel,’ – but a wagon is literally all that’s left when it comes to available accommodation.
One enterprising host on Airbnb from Freshford is offering their caravan, which sleeps five, for €232 for the night.a
Another host in Leggesrath is offering a room in their house for €382 for the night.
There are no rooms left in hotels or B&Bs around the county.
Our neighbours in Carlow, Wexford, and Tipperary have noticed the shortage and their hotels, all about 40km away, are asking for around €200 for the night.
