GARDA WARNING: Kilkenny householders targeted by series of phone and email scams during Covid-19 lockdown

Housebound residents across Kilkenny are being targeted by a series of fraudulent scams during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Kilkenny gardai say they have received several complaints from people who have received texts and emails from fraudsters in recent weeks.

In one scam, a fraudster purporting to be from a broadband company calls claiming they need to fix “a problem” before asking for the homeowner’s personal banking or credit card details.

Another email scam claim to be from Netflix, again asking the customer or resident for their banking details.

Others involve con artists posing as your bank or falsely claiming that you have won a fake prize.

Kilkenny gardai have again reminded the public not to give their personal banking or credit details to anyone who calls or emails them over the coming months.

Anyone who receives calls, texts or emails from anyone asking for their private banking details is asked to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000 or their local Garda station.
