WARNING: Snow and ice makes driving conditions trecherous, car skids on black ice on Kilkenny Road
Kilkenny gardai have urged motorists to drive carefully and slowly on “trecherous” local roads that have been left with patches of black ice.
One car was involved in a single-vehicle accident after it skidded on ice on the Kilkenny Road in Carlow early this morning.
A local Garda spokesperson urged motorists to “drive with caution, reduce their speed, allow sufficient braking time and distance between them and car in front” to prevent further accidents.
Snow is falling in parts of county Kilkenny this morning after temperatures plummeted to minus degrees overnights.
In its latest forecast, Met Éireann warned: “A very cold and frosty start with icy stretches on roads. Scattered wintry showers and some sunny spells this morning, with a few snow flurries. A more persistent band of rain and sleet will affect the northeast during the late morning, before extending southwards over the east and southeast of the country through the afternoon and evening.”
