No new deaths but 164 new cases as France and Germany record spike in infections
There were no new deaths from Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland in the last 24 hours, the HSE said this evening.
The total death toll here is now 1,777 while the number of confirmed cases has now reached 28,578 after another 127 were diagnosed.
Meanwhile, both France and Germany have recorded sharp increases in Covid-19 with Chancellor Angela Merkel warning that it will become more challenging in the coming autumn and winter months.
Germany reported 1,571 new cases today, bringing the total to 239,507, according to the Robert Koch disease control institute.
The country has so far recorded 9,288 deaths
In France, official data showed 6,111 confirmed new cases in 24 hours countrywide, a record number since the end of France’s lockdown in May.
