By COLIN BARTLEY

KILKENNY residents are being warned to look out for a scam email doing the rounds, claiming to be from their bank saying people’s accounts are frozen.

Local gardai say a scam email targeting Bank of Ireland customers has been dropping into people’s inboxes over the last number of days.

The scam email claims your account is frozen.

The gardai are advising anyone who receives an email of this type to delete the email not open the link.

There is a link on the Garda’s facebook page which gives more information on the scam and it says, “DECEPTIVE SITE AHEAD”.

“Attackers on www.boifrozenaccess.com may trick you into doing something dangerous like installing software or revealing your personal information (for example, passwords, phone numbers, or credit cards).

“Beware of fraudulent email purporting to be from Bank of Ireland claiming that your account is frozen. Delete any such emails before opening the link.”

The gardai have provided a list of ten points (See below) to look for when recognising scam emails.
