Plans for new hotel and over 30 apartments in Kilkenny city-centre
Permission is being sought for a large development consisting of a hotel and short-let apartment complex on the site of a former cash and carry in Kilkenny city.
Developers Veridical Limited has lodged an application with Kilkenny County Council just before Christmas looking to build a 138 room hotel and 36 short-let apartments on the former Kilkenny Wholesale Cash and Carry site on Walkin Street.
The application seeks permission to demolish the existing warehouses on the site to allow for a four-storey hotel of 138 bedrooms, along with a reception area, a kitchen, bar and restaurant and “all ancillary functions”.
The 36 short-let apartments would be built on a separate four-storey block within the site and would comprise of 34 one-bed apartments and two two-bed apartments.
As part of the development, Veridical Limited is seeking permission to reconfigure the vehicle and pedestrian entrance from Lower New Street and from Walkin Street.
A decision on the project is expected from the local authority before the end of February.
