5-Star Kilkenny hotel gets green light for major expansion
A 5-star Kilkenny hotel has been granted approval for ambitious plans to create a further 32 rooms to cater for extra guests.
The Lyrath Estate Hotel recently applied to Kilkenny County Council to amend previously approved planning for the hotel to develop a new building which was to be used to house staff.
On top of this, the local authority has now agreed to grant permission to the most recent changes proposed by the hotel to construct 32 new guest rooms.
In 2018 the Lyrath owners applied for permission to develop an accommodation block for staff, beside the main carpark of the estate
Under these plans, the Lyrath’s owners intended constructing a new building over two floors, consisting of 16 bedrooms and four common areas for staff use only. This permission was granted by Kilkenny County Council in December 2018.
Less than six months later management returned to the local authority seeking amendments to the approved planning permission asking to develop an extra floor with 10 extra bedrooms, again for use as staff accommodation. This request was again approved by the council.
The latest approved planning request sought to add more rooms to the development, increasing from 28 to 32. It also received approval to use the new block for guest accommodation, as well as for staff accommodation.
The Lyrath Estate currently has 139 bedrooms as well as an award-winning spa facility and a conference centre.
