Five months of traffic delays expected for new road build in city

By COLIN BARTLEY

SERIOUS traffic delays are expected in Kilkenny for the next five months, to facilitate the construction of a new road.

The delays will mainly affect traffic using College Road and the Old Callan road in the city.

Kilkenny County Council is closing Circular Road next Monday. It will remain closed until November, to facilitate the construction of the new road and two new bridges.

The new road will connect Whitebridge and the Callan Road roundabout to Kilcreene, making access to the Orthopeaedic Hospital easier from the Ring Road.

During the five-month construction, local access only will be permitted. Sections of the Kilmanagh Rd (R695) to the Robertshill traffic lights will close for the duration of the construction.

There will be local access only to Circular Rd/Robertshill via the College Road Roundabout.

Heavy Goods Vehicles(HGV) are not allowed into Dominic St and Stephens St, and all HGV traffic is being diverted via the Ring Road and St Francis Bridge.
