Brace yourself: Met Éireann issues new Status Yellow wind and rainfall warnings for Kilkenny

BRACE yourself for another wet and windy day.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rainfall for Kilkenny and 12 other counties that will be in place until 6pm today.

Kilkenny and the rest of Leinster will also be hit with strong gales throughout the day, making driving conditions hazardous. A Status Yellow wind warning will also be in place for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal from until 7pm.

Heavy rain will lead to accumulations of around 25 to 40mm, but may even exceed these limits in mountainous areas.

Southeast winds will increase to become strong with gales, or strong gales, along coasts, bringing potentially “severe and damaging gusts”.

Rain will spread to all areas during the morning and will turn heavy, especially in the west and south and later in the east.

Rain in the west and southwest will clear to heavy showers later in the afternoon, with highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees predicted.

The weekend will, fortunately, bring some respite. Saturday’s weather looks more settled with showers confined to more western parts of the country and mostly dry weather in the east.

Sunny spells and showers are likely on Sunday, but many eastern areas will stay dry.
