Kilkenny group that works with elderly gets €60,000 funding

A KILKENNY sports initiative that helps the elderly remain active has been granted nearly €60,000 as part of a programme aimed at bringing care back to the home.
Kilkenny Recreational and Sports Partnership (KRSP) received €58,714 through the Sláintecare Integration Fund for its ‘Active for Life’ programme.
The highly successful county-wide programme has developed a wide-range of classes and courses for people aged 50 and over. These include aqua aerobics and swimming lessons, pilates, chair based exercise, walking programmes and walking football among other activities.
Kilkenny and the South East is to benefit from over €1.322 million worth of projects through the Sláintecare Integration Fund out of a total pot of €20 million, according to Kilkenny’s Minister, John Paul Phelan.
“The projects are designed to move more care into the community and will lead to improvements for patients with chronic conditions, diabetes and heart failure, as well as supporting older people to be cared for in their own homes.
“Sláintecare is our plan to reform the health service, dismantle the HSE and deliver more care close to home.
Other allocations to benefit Kilkenny and the South East region include €218,682 for a chronic disease self- management programme, while a further €146,500 is to be invested in the diagnoses and treatment of smoking during pregnancy.
The biggest investment sees €898,218 earmarked for a Heart Failure virtual consultation service, including a clinical nurse specialist support.
Other projects include investment in orthopaedic services for the South East, an integrated pulmonary outreach service and respiratory and a COPD integrated care project.
