By COLIN BARTLEY

KILKENNY legend DJ Carey has stepped down as manager of the Cats under-20 hurling team.

Carey led his Cats charges to a Leinster title this year, but fell to Cork at the semi-final stage. He steps down after two years in charge.

The retirement from the role of five-time All-Ireland winners and nine-time All-Star was made in a statement issued by the Kilkenny County Board.

The statement said: “DJ thanked his management team, the players and Kilkenny County Board for all their support throughout his two year term, which culminated in a Leinster title in 2019 following a 1-17 to 0-18 victory over Wexford.  DJ remains fully committed to GAA in Kilkenny.”

Kilkenny County Chairperson Jimmy Walsh thanked DJ for his commitment and dedication and looks forward to working with DJ in many more roles with Kilkenny GAA over the coming years.
