Abandoned Gowran Park races rescheduled for Thursday
By COLIN BARTLEY
SATURDAY’S horse racing at Gowran Park, which had to be abandoned due to the thunder and lightning, has been rescheduled for this Thursday.
And the venue is offering offering punters free entry, a free race card and a free shuttle bus to and from Kilkenny city to the rearranged meet.
Racing on Saturday had to be abandoned due to the heavy rain and thunderstorms. Organisers initially delayed the racing by a half-hour because of the rain that fell on Saturday morning.
However, the thunderstorms rolled in while the jockeys were on the way down to the start for the first race. The race organisers took the decision to abandon the card.
Horse Racing Ireland has moved quickly to reschedule the meeting – featuring the Group III Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes, and it will now go ahead this coming Thursday weather permitting.
First race is off at 1.40pm. Buses will leave Kilkenny Castle from 12.30pm and return from Gowran at the conclusion of the races at 6pm.
