Kilkenny Council get tuff with owners who don’t license their dogs

KILKENNY County Council is set to crackdown on dog owners who don’t license their pets.

The council has added more staff to their dog license inspection unit to make sure the city and county is compliant with the Control of Dogs act.

Anyone unable to produce a dog license when asked by an inspector could face a fine of up to €1,270.

The special dog license inspection unit will be visiting all areas of the city and county over the coming months to ensure people have the correct paperwork for their dog.

Under the Control of Dogs Act, all dog owners are required to have a dog license. An annual dog licence is €20, while a lifetime dog licence costs €140.

Inspectors can issue on the spot fine of €100 and/or prosecution with fines rising to €1,270.

Dog licenses are available for purchase at your local Post Office or online at licences .ie.
