BIG FREEZE: Weather warning remains in place in Kilkenny as temperatures plummet
A status yellow weather warning will remain in place in Kilkenny and across most of the country until 10am this morning as temperatures plummet to as low as -4 degrees in parts.
And winter will tighten its icy grip over the county in the coming days as mercury levels drop to sub zero degrees and it will remain unsettled with rain or showers on most days.
The week will get off to a very cold start today with frost and some freezing fog.
Met Éireann said: “The fog possibly slow to clear. A dry and bright afternoon will follow in most areas with good sunny spells. Highest temperatures generally 6 to 9 degrees but temperatures possibly a little lower where any fog lingers into the afternoon.”
More outbreaks of rain are forecast for tomorrow, starting in the western half of the country before moving to the east in the early afternoon.
Wednesday will bring a mix of heavy showers and some bright spells. The showers will be quite widespread and may merge into longer spells of rain in places, particularly in the south and east, with highest temperatures of between 7 to 10 degrees.
The unsettled conditions will continue on Thursday and Friday. The national forecast said: “There will be some sunny spells but many areas will see frequent showers. Winds will continue fresh southeasterly with daytime temperatures around average for this time of year, 7 to 10 degrees.”
