Your dream Kilkenny? Council wants your ideas to develop landmark city sites

Kilkenny County Council are urging members of the public to let their imaginations run free and tell them what they would like to see developed in our city.

Over the coming years, the sites of St Canice’s Hospital and the Fairgreen, as well as council-owned land at Loughmacask, will all undergo substantial transformations as part of the council’s master plan for the city.

In the New Year, the council will be reaching out to the public and asking them to put forward suggestions of what they believe can be done to, or what they would like to see developed, on the sites.

There are a number of significant landmarks in the city that will fall under the plan, including Kilkenny Fire Station and the old cinema site.

A new fire station will be built in Kilkenny over the coming years, which will leave the current station, and it’s substantial footprint on the Gaol road, requiring an alternative purpose.

Similarly, new uses will need to be found for the St Canice’s Hospital site off the Dublin Road.

Proposals for the development of council lands at Loughmacask in the North West of the city and the old cinema site at the Fairgreen will also be welcomed.

More details on how to submit your suggestions will be revealed by the council in the coming weeks.
