Kilkenny band tipped for greatness to support Britpop ‘supergroup’ at soldout Irish gigs
A Kilkenny band who have been making strides in the music business of late will be going where the ‘strange ones go’ this weekend as they have been asked to support legendary Britpop band Supergrass.
Kilkenny four-piece The Wha have been wowing critics and fans alike and have been lined up for numerous festivals all over the UK and Europe this summer.
Supergrass play two sold-out shows at Dublin’s Olympia theatre next weekend in what is turning out to be one of the most anticipated gigs of the year.
The Oxford three-piece originally, and now a four-piece stomped all over the Britpop and new wave UK guitar music of the 90s and early 2000s with their heavy guitar riffs and boundless (literally) energy.
The band spilt in 2010 but rumours started surfacing of a reunion last year, and it came to pass. Tickets for the initial gig in Dublin’s Olympia on Friday, February 14 sold out in less than two minutes. A second was announced and tickets were snapped up.
The Kilkenny band were handed the task of getting a hot and expectant crowd in the right mood before Supergrass come on stage, but also to highlight their extraordinary songwriting skills and sounds to a new audience.
The Wha released their debut single ‘Innocents’ last summer and have been riding a wave ever since. The Wha are dual vocalists and guitarists Finn Cusack and Sam Cullen, Marek Lech (bass) and Abe G Harris (percussion).
