ELECTION 2020: FF duo John McGuinness and Jennifer Murnane O’Connor set to take second and third seats in Carlow-Kilkenny
Fianna Fáil duo John McGuinness and his Carlow-based party colleague Jennifer Murnane O’Connor (pictured below) are looking safe bets to win seats to the 33rd Dáil after the completed tallies indicate they will poll 14.5% and 12.5% respectively.
They are set to take the second and third seats in the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency, trailing Sinn Féin’s Kathleen Funchion who secured a whopping 23.7% of the local first preference vote, according to tallies.
Fellow FF candidate, South Kilkenny-based Bobby Aylward, is next on 10.4% of the vote, but he may yet struggle to pick up enough transfers to hang onto his seat.
Deputy Aylward is followed in first perference votes by Fine Gael’s John Paul Phelan on 8.7%, but he is expected to pick up the bulk of transfers from his running mate Patrick O’Neill, who is on 5%, according to the tallies.
Carlow-based Fine Gael TD Pat Deering is currently polling 8.1% first preference votes.
Local Green candidate Malcolm Noonan is polling 6.6%, but he could yet enter the fray for the final seat depending on transfers to Alyward and Deering.
