Gardai hunt gang who broke into home of 89-year-old Kilkenny woman stealing her cash and leaving her traumatised
An 89-year-old Kilkenny woman was subjected to horrific ordeal after a gang of burglars raided her home as she looked-on helpless and terrified.
The woman was home alone in her house at Kilbraghan, New Ross, in county Kilkenny on Tuesday, February 11.
Shortly before 9pm, two men appeared at the rear of the house. They forced open a window and broke into the elderly lady’s home.
The two men started intimidating the terrified woman, demanding to know where she kept her money. One man remained with her at all times, repeatedly shouting at the woman asking where the cash was. The second man ransacked the house with the information they got from the lady.
Upon locating an amount of cash the two men fled, but not before stealing the elderly lady’s mobile phone and house phone so she could not make contact with anyone.
The woman was not physically assaulted, nor hurt during the incident – but was left terribly distressed by the whole ordeal.
Garda investigating the callous burglary have no details as yet about the transport the criminals used to get to and from the woman’s home and are appealing for the public’s assistance to catch these heartless thugs.
A local garda source told KilkennyNow.ie, “This is a particularly heinous crime on a defenceless woman in an isolated area.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in that area of south Kilkenny close to the border of Wexford near New Ross at that time who may have seen anything unusual to come forward. Or anyone in the Kilbraghan area around that time who may have dashcam footage to contact the gardai.”
Gardai have released a description of one of the men involved in the terrifying incident, he is described as being of medium build, medium height, in his sixties, wearing dark clothing with a dark peaked cap.
