Fueling success: Kilkenny filling station given go-ahead for major redevelopment
A well-known county Kilkenny filling station and shop has been given the green light to undergo a massive transformation.
Carroll’s Centra and Emo Oil in Knocktopher has been granted planning permission by Kilkenny County Council to redevelop the shop and forecourt, which will include the demolishing of the existing shop building.
The owner, Padraic Carroll, can now go ahead with plans to build a new supermarket building comprising of convenience shop with off-license, stores area, staff facilities, public toilets, an internal seating area, a solid fuel store, plant and bin storage area to the rear of the new building, as well as the construction of two new commercial units.
The new facility will cater for 12,000-plus people in the Knocktopher area and surrounding enviorons.
The new development will now see the construction of a new canopy over the fuel pumps, alterations to the layout of the fuel pumps/islands with an additional fuel pump, a new heavy goods vehicle fuel pump, a new automatic roller car wash, a realignment of the boundary and vehicular entrance to the existing hotel car park and the creation of a new exit lane onto the public road at Whitecastle Lower, Ricesland, Knocktopher.
