WEEKEND WEATHER: There’s a storm a-brewin’, but Kilkenny set to escape the worst

Heavy thundery rain, strong gusts of wind and hail showers all lie ahead according to Met Eireann as Ireland awaits a “rapidly developing storm” with a Yellow Wind Warning in place for many counties.

But the good news is Kilkenny is likely to escape the worst of the approaching storm, which began to make its presence felt last night with strong gusty winds and widespread showers.

Met Éireann said today will be cool, windy and showery but the south east won’t feel the brunt of the bad weather as the west and northern coasts are battered by more strong southwest winds and gales. Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees are forecast.

The ‘sunny south east’ will also enjoy the best of the bright spells forecast for tomorrow as the north and west again bears the brunt of longer spells of rain, with temperatures of between 13 to 16 degrees in the south and east.

Things look brighter for Sunday, which will be mostly dry with spells of sunshine forecast for most areas and temperature highs of between 15 to 19 degrees.

Met Éireann said current indications suggest a cloudy day on Monday, with outbreaks of rain and temperatures rising to between 15 and 17 degrees.
