LATEST: No further deaths and 10 new cases of virus, Government to cut pandemic payment: report
There were no new Covid-19 related deaths reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre today. However, 10 new cases of the virus were confirmed.
It means the overall death toll as a result of the virus remains at 1,753. There are now 25,760 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily breifing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
The number of cases in Kilkenny remains the same at 356, or one per cent of the overall total.
Meanwhile, a report today said the Government is set to cut the Pandemic Unemployment Payment as it extends the social welfare scheme until spring 2021.
The emergency social welfare payments were introduced in March as Covid-19 restrictions were introduced.
People whose income was affected by the pandemic were eligible to claim either €350 or €203 per week.
The scheme was initially extended until August 10 but it is now expected to be extended until spring 2021.
According to the Sunday Times, the scheme will be extended as part of the July Stimulus Package. The €3 billion plan will be unveiled by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar, this week.
