SCAM ALERT: Gardai issue fresh ‘vishing’ alert to Kilkenny residents
Residents in Kilkenny have been warned to be on the lookout over a fresh ‘vishing’ scam targeting the South East of the country.
A post on the Garda Síochána Kilkenny/Carlow Facebook page said fraudsters were calling people looking for their financial details.
“We are receiving reports of fraudulent messages seeking peoples financial details via a vishing scam,” it says.
“The scammers are seeking bank details in relation to offering people Covid payments.
“Never divulge your personal or bank details online or to any entrusted source.”
This week Joe Duffy’s Liveline has been inundated with calls from Bank Of Ireland callers who lost thousands in an elaborate telephone and text scam, with one man saying he lost €10,825 as a result.
