29,000 people in Kilkenny now playing National Lottery games every week
More than 130 ‘Good Causes’ across Kilkenny city and country have been supported by the National Lottery since 2018.
Around 91% of revenue generated by the National Lottery goes back into the community through prize winnings, funding for Good Causes and retailer commissions.
More than 130 Good Causes projects, including the local Arthritis Ireland branch (pictured), were supported in Kilkenny in 2018 and 2019. On average, 4,000 clubs, groups and voluntary organisations are supported every year across Ireland.
National Lottery Head of Corporate Affairs Nikki Gallagher said there are now an average of 29,000 people in Kilkenny playing National Lottery games every week.
Ms Gallagher added: “A huge amount is raised for local community groups, projects and sports clubs each year. While it has been a challenging year for such organisations, National Lottery players are responsible for supporting thousands of organisations and groups in towns and villages across Ireland in the areas of Irish Language, Arts, Health and Wellbeing, Heritage, Rural and Community Development, Children and Youth Affairs and Sport. Nearly 30 cent in every €1 goes directly to the Good Causes Fund.”
Arthritis Ireland works nationally to provide community-based education and adapted exercise programmes to help people effectively manage and control what can be a devastating disease.
The Kilkenny branch received National Lottery Good Causes funding to implement ‘Be Active with Arthritis’ exercise programmes delivered by a chartered physiotherapist.
