Good news for Kilkenny students who want study locally as WIT celebrates 50th birthday
Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) is set to have a bumper year of first year students to mark the 50 years since its foundation in 1970.
Overall the Institute has increased the number of college places offered in the CAO Round 1 offers including an 8.7% increase in its Level 8 honours degree course offers.
The institute is set to have a further number of CAO applicants and offers with the news today that it has added seven courses to the CAO’s ‘available places’ list to support people who have not already applied to the CAO, as well as existing applicants to start college this September.
The courses WIT is offering are: Business, Engineering, Architectural technology, Arts, Culinary arts, Computing and Software System Development.
The institute can also expect high demand an exciting new honours degree programme in business information systems – the Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Business Information Systems which is now open for applications. Students will graduate with a thorough knowledge of new technologies, business knowledge, communication skills and experience as BIS professionals to drive digital transformation across all industries, nationally and internationally.
Dr Derek O’Byrne, Registrar and Vice President for Academic Affairs at WIT said: “I am delighted to announce that WIT has made more CAO offers this year than last year; it has been a difficult year for all applicants from school leavers to mature applicants. In these unusual times we are especially delighted to play a role in prepare students with skills and knowledge are the cornerstone of having fulfilled future careers.”
Dr O’Byrne said all students with WIT offers have been sent an email from the college which will give them more insight on the institute’s move to blended delivery and what their college year will look like.
He added: “WIT is moving to a blended learning model for 2020/21 which means that our programmes will be a mix of on-campus and online learning. The mix is dependent on a student’s programme of study but as a guideline labs and studios will be delivered on campus while activities like lectures and tutorials will be online.
“Indicative guideline timetables have been sent to first years; draft indicative timetables have also been made available to our students, these are subject to change and will be updated again this Friday, 18 September.”
