Make Way Day: Kilkenny people with disabilities have their say

Kilkenny Council and local gardai have backed a special awareness day taking place today for people with disabilities and mobility needs.

‘Make Way Day’ is a campaign that brings the disability and wider community together to consider the needs of people with disabilities in the public spaces we all share, such as footpaths and roads.

Led by the Disability Federation of Ireland, the campaign raises awareness about the challenges people with disabilities face from obstacles left on the footpath and poor driver behaviour, such as parking and when driving.

This year the local authority has gotten fully behind the campaign. They hosted a virtual meeting on local access issues at 11am this morning, while local gardai are also holding a day of enforcement for ‘Operation Enable’ to support the initiative.
