Kilkenny motorists urged to be cautious as temperatures plummet to minus 4 degrees: Met Éireann

KILKENNY motorists are advised to be cautious and slow down as sub-zero conditions make driving conditions hazardous in parts of the county over the coming days.

Met Éireann has warned temperatures will plummet to as low as -4 degrees this weekend in a marked departure from the unseasonably warm weather we have enjoyed over the past four weeks.

The national forecaster has predicted showers and frost with freezing temperatures for Saturday and Sunday.

In Kilkenny and throughout most of Leinster, overnight rain cleared this morning, giving way to fresh, sunny spells and top temperatures of between 7 to 9 degrees.

Tonight will see more scattered showers and cold conditions, with lowest temperatures falling to between zero and +2 degrees and frost in places.

The mist and frost will slowly clear tomorrow, although there will be a few showers in-between some bright or sunny spells. Overnight temperatures in some areas will drop to 1 degree.

On Sunday morning patchy rain will clear eastwards to just isolated showers with more sunny spells developing.

However, the weather will turn very cold on Sunday night.

Met Éireann said: “Lowest temperatures will fall to between zero and minus 4 degrees with a widespread sharp frost. Monday will be cold day and frost will only slowly clear in the morning.”
