LATEST: Kilkenny among 1,095 new cases of virus as five more deaths confirmed
There has been five further coronavirus related deaths as 1,095 new cases of Covid019 were confirmed this evening.
It brings the overall death toll as a result of the virus to 1,835. There are now 45,243 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
The breakdown of the latest cases is as follows: 246 are in Dublin, 185 in Meath,128 in Cavan, 118 in Cork, 63 in Kildare with the remaining 342 cases are spread across all remaining counties.
Meanwhile, Norhern Ireland has recorded its highest ever number of daily cases, with 1,217 additional coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours.
A further four people in the North hae died after testing positive for the virus.
It brings the death toll in the region to 602 and the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak to 23,115. Some 6,693 people north of the border have tested positive in the last seven days alone.
The Government has become increasingly concerned at the significant jump in cases in the border counties.
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar earlier noted that the incidence of the virus in Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan are now the highest in the Republic, adding these counties may be subject to further restrictions.
