HALLOWEEN WEATHER: Kilkenny’s in for some scary weather this weekend …

This is one Halloween when everyone is being urged to stay indoors. But if you’re a fan of the traditional fright night you can at least console yourself that you really are better off not venturing outside as some pretty scary weather has been forecast for the weekend.

Met Éireann has issued a weather advisory for the entire country with stormy conditions set to barrel in for the Halloween weekend.

The national forecaster said: “Very unsettled weather will occur over the Halloween weekend as a series of vigorous Atlantic weather systems pass close to Ireland. Spells of heavy rain will lead to surface and river flooding.

“Very windy/stormy at times with some severe and damaging gusts possible. Some coastal flooding possible also due to the combination of low pressure, high tides and onshore winds. Very high seas.”

Kilkenny, fortunately, is likely to escape the worst of the rain forecast for Connacht, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.

Today will be dry overall with even spells of sunshine and highest temperatures of between 9 to 12 degrees.

Tomorrow morning will begin mild, with the mercury rising to between 14 and 16 degrees, but things will go downhill come evening. Met Éireann said Saturday will be a “wet and possibly stormy day on Saturday with widespread and often heavy rain continuing through the day”.

Rain will clear in the the northeast early on Sunday, with scattered outbreaks of rain becoming heavy and more persistent in southern areas during the afternoon and highest temperatures of between 10 to 13 degrees.

The national forecaster says Monday will be “cool and unsettled” with heavy showers but some sunny spells will develop during the day.

Met Éireann said: “In terms of the overall forecast, it’s set to be a wet and dreary Halloween weekend with unsettled and stormy conditions throughout.”
