College comes up with novel way to provide safe accommodation for its Kilkenny students

Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) has launched new ‘flexi stay’ packages to provide safe and secure accommodation for students from Kilkenny and across the region during the pandemic.

WIT Novus Senior Accommodation Manager Jacqui O’ Connor said the flexi stay option is ideal for students coming to the college from outside the city whose presence is required on the campus from time to time, for example to attend labs.

“Given the current climate there was a requirement to provide accommodation packages to meet the individual student needs which varied from annual, monthly and weekly stays,” Ms O’Connor said.

O’Connor added that the “accessibility of high speed Wi-Fi and individual study spaces in a safe and secure environment” has also been very appealing to students.

WIT Students’ Union President John Fortune welcomed the flexi stay accommodation the college is providing, adding: “In times like this it is great to see one of the largest accommodation providers in Waterford showing initiative and being as flexible as possible for students.”

The college has introduced important health and safety measures to protect students.

Ms O’ Connor added: “Our Covid-19 response plan has been implemented which includes digital temperature checks on arrival, sanitization stations, cleaning protocols, one-way systems and a no visitor policy. Our team are committed to providing an excellent & safe student experience and have been instrumental in supporting and implementing these measures.”
