Plans to triple the size of Kilkenny city-centre hotel are given green light
A Kilkenny hotel’s plan to almost triple the amount of its bedrooms have been approved by the local council.
The Kilkenny Inn on Vicar Street can now proceed with its plans to build an extra 75 rooms to its existing 30 rooms.
Developers Auburn Ventures initially lodged an application for the significant hotel extension beside the Abbey Quarter in September 2019.
The decision was delayed asthe council sought clarification on a number of aspects concerning the plans for the huge development. However, Kilkenny County Council formally granted permission for the development this week.
The five-storey extension includes a new frontage onto St Canice’s Place. It also includes a new penthouse and a café with an outdoor covered terrace area, set back from the street at ground floor level.
The 75 new rooms will be built from the ground up to the third floor, with a separate lounge at the penthouse level.
The proposed extension will be connected to the existing hotel at first, second and third floor levels and will include an adjustment of existing car parking spaces.
A new landscaped central courtyard, a rooftop plant enclosure, as well as a set down area at front of the proposed building on St Canice’s Place, will also be constructed.
