Garda hunt to identify owner of dead horse found on Kilkenny road

By COLIN BARTLEY

THE remains of the young foal found dead on the side of a Kilkenny road have been removed to a specialist animal facility in an effort to identify the animal’s owner.

The examination at the facility will provide gardai with a cause of death for the animal. At the moment local gardai are keeping an open mind on the death of the animal.

The grim discovery was made at Drakesland Middle, Kilkenny city overnight on Monday when the young horse was found lifeless and lying abandoned in a ditch.

A garda spokesperson told KilkennyNow.ie: “The horse has been taken away and will be looked at by a vet to identify the cause of death and to check if the animal had been microchipped.

“This is a difficult case to identify ownership as the horse was found on a public road, not on someone’s land.

“At the moment we have to establish a cause of death, whether it was struck by a vehicle or was it from other causes.”

An investigation into the discovery has been launched.
