LATEST: Kilkenny among counties with highest new cases of virus, over 70s and frontline workers first in line for vaccine

One more person has  died after contracting the coronavirus as 215 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.

The overall death told as a result of the virus now stands at 2,097. There are now 74,682 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).

The breakdown of the latest cases is as follow: 74 are in Dublin, 22 in Donegal, 15 in Kilkenny, 14 in Louth, 11 in Limerick and the remaining 79 cases are spread across 18 other counties.

The latest cases were confirmed as Health Minister Stephen Donnelly announced that over 65s in long-term care, frontline healthcare workers and people over 70 will be the first in line to get the Covid-19 vaccine once it is approved.

Minister Donnelly also said there will be no barrier to people accessing a vaccine and that it will be available free of charge to everyone in Ireland.
