Eircom fights Council’s decision to refuse permission for huge telecoms mast in centre of Kilkenny village
Developers who sought to erect a huge telecommunications mast in a Kilkenny village have objected to the local authority’s decision to refuse permission for the project.
Earlier this month Kilkenny County Council turned down Eircom Limited plans to erect a 18-metre-high free standing communications mast in the centre of Mooncoin.
Now Eircom has appealed that decision to An Bord Pleanála.
The telecoms company applied for permission to erect the 60ft mast with associated antennae, communication dishes, ground equipment and all associated site development works at the Eircom Exchange on Chapel Street.
In its ruling rejecting the mast, the local authority said us “has serious concerns given the location of the site within a residential area where a high number of dwellings are located in close proximity to the site.
“The proposed development could seriously injure the visual and residential amenities of the area and depreciate the value of existing properties.”
A decision is expected from An Bord Pleanála by the end of April.
