Return of the ‘Beast’: Snow, ice and freezing temperatures as weather warning issued for Kilkenny
Kilkenny could be set for a repeat of the ‘Beast from the East’ weather phenonemon as Met Éireann issued a weather warning for the entire county.
The national forecaster warned of plummeting temperatures, snow and ice for the county overnight with temperatures set to fall to -4c. The forecast freezing conditions have been compared to the so-called ‘Beast from the East’ in February 2018 that brought widespread snowfall and freezing temperatures and wrought hazardous driving conditions.
Met Éireann issued two separate weather warning today which will remain in place until late tomorrow morning.
The national forecaster also warned the freezing temperatures will result in “treacherous conditions” on our roads.
It also issued a Status Yellow -Low Temperature and Ice warning, forecasting “very cold” weather “with minimum temperatures widely falling to -3 or -4 degrees celsius.” This warning is valid from now until 10am tomorrow morning.
Met Éireann said its second Status Yellow Snow and Ice warning “will lead to treacherous conditions,” with “some [snow] accumulations possible”. This snow warning is valid from 11pm tonight until 11am tomorrow.
