BIG FREEZE WARNING: Kilkenny’s going to get even colder as temperatures plummet to -7C

Kilkenn has been included in a third Status Yellow weather warning as the bitterly cold snap continues into the weekend.

And Met Éireann has forecast the coldest weather for some time, with temperatures dropping to as low as -7 degrees in places with freezing fog expected.

The national forecaster’s Low Temperature and Ice warning covers the whole island and came into effect today. It will remain in place uintil midday tomorrow.

Met Éireann warned the continuing cold snap will bring “hazardous icy conditions in places with widespread severe frost and pockets of freezing fog”. The forecaster added it will be “extremely cold tonight,” with lowest temperatures of -1 to -7 degrees.

Met Éireann said the worst effects of the cold will be felt in Leinster and Munster.
