Successful Kilkenny food business seeks more time to grow

A small Kilkenny business success story is requesting an extension period for it plans to build a processing plant and waste water treatment facility in order to expand its business.

Mooncoin Homegrown Beetroot has requested more time from Kilkenny County Council to complete construction of a processing room and water treatment facility as the initial planning permission, which was granted back in 2016, has almostr expired.

The council gave permission to the business, based in Luffany in Mooncoin, to construct the 74mt sq production facility and treatment plant. However, the plant has yet to be completed.

Mooncoin Beetroot, run by the Murphy family, was established in 2012 producing top-quality pickled beetroots. Their products can be found in numerous Irish supermarkets and local vendors.

A decision on whether the council grants an extension of planning permission is due before the end of the month.
