WEEKEND WEATHER: Change in forecast next week may put Spring in your step

Kilkenny’s in for another weekend of unsettled weather, but the weather is set to take a turn for the better next week as spring approaches.

Met Éireann said it will be a wet and windy start to tday with further outbreaks of rain and a continued risk of flooding. The national forecaster said: “Eastern parts of the country will likely see cloud and outbreaks of rain persist through the day. Conditions will improve in the west through the afternoon with sunny spells and scattered showers developing. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees.”

Tomorrow will be a very mild day, temperatures risging to as high as 12 degrees. Met Éireann said it will be mostly dry at first but outbreaks of rain will develop later in the day, turning heavy and persistent in places with some flooding.

The forecaster said there is “some uncertainty” around conditions on Sunday. It added: “Sunday currently looks to have a largely cloudy start with some outbreaks of rain. It will become brighter during the afternoon with showers moving into the western half of the country. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees with a light southerly breeze.”

Showers will persist in western areas on Monday, but it will be mainly dry and bright to begin in Kilkenny and the south east. Met Éireann said: “Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees. Wet and windy weather will spread from the west on Monday evening. Widespread overnight rain will be heavy at times with some flooding.”

The national forecaster said next week will be “generally mild and unsettled” witn some sunny intervals, but further wet and windy weather at times also. Some periods of heavy rain will occur with some further flooding.

However, Met Érieann said current indications suggest the weather will become more settled during the second half of next week as spring edges closer/
