Kilkenny school to build temporary classrooms while waiting for €7m works to begin

A large school in county Kilkenny is looking for a temporary solution to find more space for their students.

The Board of Management at Presentation Secondary School in Kilkenny city has made an application to local authority looking to add three more temporary classrooms to its campus in Loughboy.

On the planning application to the council, the Board of Management requested permission for “the erection of a detached single storey temporary demountable building containing three classrooms”.

The temporary structure will add a further 147sqm of space to the school.

In 2018, funding was approved for a €7 million extension, which will double the size of the existing school. Work on that project is scheduled to start this year, depending on the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions.

Presentation Secondary School currently caters for 780 secondary students. A decision on the application for the temporary classrooms is due by the end of April.
