Covid cases put Kilkenny’s league clash with Wexford in doubt
An outbreak of Covid-19 within Wexford GAA has cast doubts over the Cats’ National Hurling League clash clash with our Model County neighbours this weekend.
It comes after two members of the senior Wexford hurling panel and one intercounty camogie player tested positive for the virus. The camogie player did not feature in last weekend’s league match against Kilkenny.
None of the rest of the camogie team were deemed close contacts, but many of the panel took tests as a precaution and have so far all returned negative results.
A member of the Wexford ladies football team returned a positive test after their game over the weekend, leading to three other players – deemed to be close contacts – being tested. Two of these returned negative tests, with one result outstanding.

Despite the development, Wexford GAA chairman Micheàl Martin said he remains confident this weekend’s game would go ahead.
Mr Martin told South East Radio’s Morning Mix programme: “We know at the moment there are two players that have tested positive. That’s at the moment, I wouldn’t like to comment for privacy of information.
“I don’t think we are overly concerned beyond that at this present time. We would imagine the game will go ahead, obviously we will have to work through all the procedures,” Mr Martin added.
