Final decision on new Kilkenny supermarket and housing development due
A decision on whether a new supermarket and housing development can be built i inKilkenny city is expected later this week.
Kilkenny County Council will decide whether Lidl Ireland can go ahead with plans to create a new store on the site of their existing supermarket on the Waterford Road. As part of the plans the German Supermarket giant requested permission to build 13 houses on a site adjoining the supermarket.
A decision was due to be reached in April, bht the council requested further clarification from the German supermarket giant regarding some aspects of their plans, which delayed the matter.
The retailer is seeking to build a larger 2,412 sq mts supermarket, consisting of a foodstore, off-licence and storage area.
The new development will include carparking, signage, covered trolley bay, landscaping, public lighting, electric vehicle charging points, roof mounted solar panels, a refrigeration and air conditioning plant and cycle parking.
The plans also include the construction of 13 two-storey, three bed homes on a site next door to the current supermarket.
