BANK HOLIDAY WEATHER: Kilkenny to enjoy best of sunny conditions this weekend

Kilkenny and the south east are set to enjoy the best of conditions forecast for the country this Bank Holiday weekend.

In its latest forecast, Met Éireann said the region will enjoy mostly sunny and dry weather over the coming days, although there may be some rain and showers at times.

The national forecaster said today will be “largely dry with sunny spells and just isolated showers”, but it will become cloudier with outbreaks of light rain in the southwest, west and northwest. with highest temperatures of 14 to 19 degrees.

Tomorrow morning will be quite cloudy, with scattered outbreaks of light rain but by the afternoon these will become mainly confined to the northeast and east “with sunny spells developing elsewhere”. Met Éireann added: “Most areas will be dry with sunny spells during the evening as the showers clear northeastwards. Highest temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees, mildest in the southeast, with light to moderate southwest to west winds.”

Sunday will be mostly dry with clear spells, although some light showers are possible, mainly in eastern areas. Met Éireann said: “Feeling pleasant with highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees in light breezes. Dry overnight with clear spells though there’s a possibility of some dense fog developing in light southeasterly or variable breezes. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.”

Overnight mist and fog will clear early  to give a dry Bank Holiday Monday morning with sunny spells. The national forecaster warned cloud “will push in from the Atlantic with scattered showers developing”, but the east of the country will enjoy the driest conditions. Met Éireann said: “Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly winds. Becoming largely dry overnight with lowest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in light breezes.”

Met Éireann said current indications suggest there will be some rain and showers at times next week but a good deal of dry weather too, adding: “Temperatures are expected to increase through the week, reaching high teens or low twenties.”
