Second Kilkenny man wanted over Spain murder spotted in city last week

A YOUNG Kilkenny man who is allegedly wanted in connection with the murder of an Irishman in Spain was spotted in the city last week, KilkennyNow.ie has learned.

Reports earlier today claimed a European Arrest Warrant has been issued for the suspect, who is in his 20s.

Another Kilkenny man, who is in his 30s, is already in custody in Spain after he was arrested in connection with the murder of Dubliner Carl Carr (38).

A local Garda source confirmed the young man was sighted in Kilkenny last week.

However, local gardai said they have not yet received any notice of a European Arrest Warrant, nor “any official request for assistance” from the Spanish authorities in relation to the case.

Spanish police believe Carl Carr was murdered during a row over a woman before his body was moved by car to a shallow grave on the Costa Blanca.

He had been missing for five months before his body was discovered in recent weeks.

Spanish investigators suspect the younger Kilkenny man of alerting the suspect who is currently in custody after seeing his former partner getting intimate with Carr after a night out.

Four other people aside from the Kilkenny suspect – a Spanish national and three British women, including a woman said to have been at the centre of the ‘love triangle’ row that allegedly led to the homicide – have also been arrested.

None of the five suspects who were arrested have yet been charged. This is normal practice in Spain where formal charges are only laid shortly before trial.

Carr’s body was found buried by the AP-7 motorway between Benijofar and Algorfa, a 20-minute drive north from where he was last seen alive.

Police believe he was killed in the aftermath of a night out, and that his body was driven to woods where it was buried alongside bleach thought to have been used in a clean-up operation.

Carr was jailed in 2008 in Ireland after being caught with €1.43m of heroin and cocaine.
