LATEST: Get the jab done – calls to rollout boosters now as 3,428 new cases of virus confirmed
A further 3,248 people have contracted the coronavirus, the Department of Health confirmed today.
And the number of patients now being treated for the virus in hospitals now stands at 478 patients, an increase of 34 from yesterday.
The numbers being treated in ICU has risen by one to 75.
The latest figures were confirmed as a leading immunologist called for boosters to be rolled out as fast as possible to help slowing down transmission of Covid-19.
Professor of immunovirology at University College Cork, Liam Fanning, said the rollout of booster vaccinations should have begun six weeks ago and be authorised for use by now for the over 40s.
