KILKENNY WEATHER: Wrap up well – big chill to set in this weekend

Wrap up well if you’re venturing outdoors this weekend – Met Éireann has forecast a big dip in temperatures with widespread frost hitting Kilkenny and the rest of the country from today.

The forecaster warned it will be “very cold” this morning, with icy conditions “leading to some hazardous surfaces”. Met Éireann added: “Dry and bright to start for most, with just the odd shower as cloud continues to build from the west through the morning and afternoon with rain and drizzle following into western parts towards midday. Rain will slowly spread from the west, reaching eastern areas towards the evening. Becoming increasingly windy too, with southerly winds increasing fresh to strong and gusty with gales developing on Atlantic coasts. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, coldest in Ulster.”

Overall, Kilkenny and most parts can expect unsettled conditions over the coming days with spells of wet and breezy or windy weather.

Tomorrow will be breezy with widespread showers, merging to longer spells of rain at times. Met Éireann warned: “Rain may be heavy in places. There will be limited bright spells. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in fresh and gusty southwest winds.”

Met Éireann said the forecast remains uncertain for Sunday. But it added: “There will likely be further scattered showers with some bright or sunny spells. However there is the chance that a spell of rain will move up over Ireland from the south. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with moderate westerly winds. Any rain will clear on Sunday night to good clear spells and scattered showers. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 4 degrees.”

Things are set to brighten up a bit on Monday, with sunny spells and “a good deal of dry weather” forecast, with highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, coldest in the north.

According to the national forecaster, “current indications” show it will be “mild, wet and breezy heading into midweek”.
