‘Not a strap in sight’ – Kilkenny gardai stop tractor carrying lethal hay load
The driver of this tractor may have thought they could make hay while the sun shines, but gardai in county Kilkenny brought the overloaded cargo to a halt as soon as they spotted it in the Callan area this morning.
A local Garda spokesperson said: ‘Our Roads Policing Unit encountered this Classy Massy on its last straw in the Callan area this morning. Not a strap in sight.’
The spokesperson posted a video of a previous incident in which unsecured bales of hay toppled onto a busy road, almost causing an accident, as a warning.
The post attracted hundreds of comments from concerned motorists.
One commented: ‘That’s terrible – an accident waiting to happen.’
Another eyewitness said: ‘I actually drove past this and found it very worrying… dreadful carry on.’
And one wag joked: ‘Hope this lad was arrested and doesn’t get bale,’ followed by a laughing out loud emoji.
