Elderly man taken to hospital after gang break into county Kilkenny home

An elderly man was hospitalised after a gang of thieves broke into his home in the north of the county.

The aggravated burglary occurred at a residence in Castlecomer at around 5.30pm on Monday.

It is understood at least three assailants left the scene around 15 minutes later and headed in the direction of Yellow Road or Coon in a dark coloured hatchback car.

Gardaí confirmed a sum of a sum of money was taken from the property.

The victim, a man in his 70s was taken to St Luke’s Hospital Kilkenny, but his injuries are not believed to be serious.

Gardaí said so no arrests have been made yet, and investigations are ongoing.
